MEDIA AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Seminar training in Kostanay, Kazakhstan

The UN-Women structure in Kazakhstan in partnership with the UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication of the Journalism Department of al-Farabi KazNU implemented a project in September-October 2019. It includes training seminars to increase the capacity of local media and the press services of local executive bodies in covering the gender-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “Media and Sustainable Development Goals” in the regions – for the Ural and Kostanay regions.

On October 29, 2019, a training seminar was held in the city of Kostanay on the basis of Kostanay State University named after A. Baitursynova. The event was attended by the vice-rector for science and internationalization of KSU named after A. Baitursynova A. Bekmagambetov, project manager N. Shyngysova, Chair of UNESCO Department in Journalism and Communication.

17 people participated in the training seminar: chief editors, journalists of newspapers, radio stations, television channels of the Kostanay region, bloggers, representatives of non-governmental organizations – NGO Association of Business Women of the Kostanay region, teachers, newspaper editorial offices “Nauyrzym tynysy”, “Sarykul”, “Rydnyi media” , “Karasu өnіrі”, “Nurly Zhol”, “Әuliekөl”, “Bіzdіn Torgay”.

 

 

For the two-year period from 2018 to 2019, 15 teachers of journalism universities and 34 media journalists were trained. Therefore, the cooperation of the UN international organizations with the UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication of al-Farabi KazNU will continue to help improve media skills in showing equal opportunities for men and women.
