INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICALCONFERENCE «THE STRONGER UN. BETTER WORLD»
Leading University of the country Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, who heads the Global Hub of UN program “Academic Impact” on sustainable development, organizes international scientific and practical Conference “The Stronger UN. Better World ” dedicated to the important date – the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations Organization on March 2, 2015 as the sigh of UN commitment to peace, development and security.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University encourages academic communities of different countries to join efforts and fruitfully cooperate in solving general problems of the mankind, to get engaged in dialogue and exchange their experiences. KazNU is the only university in the CIS that held the section on the UN World Summit «RIO + 20 ” in Rio de Janeiro via introducing ” The Green Bridge Through Generations ” project to support the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev “Global Strategy for Energy and Environment Development “ and “Green Bridge”. The University organized the III Forum of Asian Universities “Eurasian Diversity and the Role of Universities for Sustainable Development”, international conference “The New Paradigm of Sustainable Human Development. G-Global – a New Form of Global Dialogue” and held the international student conference “The Model of the UN – New Silk Road”.
International scientific and practical conference “The Stronger UN, the Better World ” focuses on the role of the UN in maintaining peace and security on the planet, sustainable development, environmental security of the planet, the assertion of human rights and democratic values in the world, as well as on the development of cooperation between the UN and Kazakhstan. Special attention will be paid to the idea of creation of the UN Regional Centre (Hub) in Almaty that was first proposed by the Head of the State during the meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in September, 2011.
In the framework of the Conference student activities “We are UN” and the jubilee exhibition “UN: 70 years in pictures” will start. The Conference will be attended by distinguished guests and representatives of the UN in Kazakhstan, heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations.
The first Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Professor A. H. Arystanbekova has been invited as a keynote speaker.
CONFERENCE TOPICS
The Conference will look into the following topics through 4 sessions:
• The Maintenance of Peace and Security in the World;
• Sustainable Development Agenda and Post- 2015;
• Ensuring Human Rights and Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation;
• Kazakhstan and the United Nations Organization.
