Model UN “New Silk Way 2015”

From 7th to 9th of May, 2015 at the Science Library Building of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was held the greatest Model United Nations conference in Central Asia – New Silk Way.
IV Annual International Model UN started with the official opening ceremony on May 7, where many diplomatic officials took part: representatives of Consulates of the USA, Germany, France, Hungary, Italy, Russia, India and Afghanistan in Almaty; UN Agencies like UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCR, OCHA; representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RK, The Foundation of the First President of RK – the Leader of the Nation and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South African Republic with his spouse from Astana. Each diplomat gave a speech for the delegates, motivating and encouraging them for further fruitful debates and successful conference.
After the opening, the Diplomatic reception was made, which gave the students a chance to meet and talk to the successful and experienced diplomatic officials. Also, the Organizing committee of the conference, led my madam Soni, spouse of the Ambassador of SAR, made a special performance dedicated to the International UN Mandela Day, UN Yoga Day and supporting the UN Academic Impact Program.
The conference stimulated 4 committees of the UN with following topics:
• General Assembly – Post-2015 Development: New Millennium Goals and youth;
• UN Security Council – Available object possibilities to peacefully solve the tensive situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian question;
• Economic and Social Council – Challenges of the economic alignment between North and South;
• Human Rights Council – Zero tolerance towards discrimination of people with disabilities.
On the first day the sessions went successful; the participants all met each other and acknowledged the positions of all participating countries concerning the discussed issues. The second day has started with further debates on the sessions. After their ending and after adopting their resolutions, the chairs of the committees distributed the certificates to the delegates and congratulated them on successful participation.
On the official closing ceremony official diplomatic guests took part along with the administration of Al-FarabiKazNU represented by the first pre-rector M. Burkitbayev and the director of the Model UN New Silk Way – professorRafisAbazov. Each chair of four committees gave their speech thanking the delegates and organizers, and chose the best delegates of their committees. After the ceremony the cultural evening has started, where all the delegates represented their home countries, telling stories and making talented performances, everyone enjoyed the songs and dances. The organizing committee also made a performance as an opening of an entertaining cultural evening that further was joined by all the participants.
On the third day the delegates went for the city-tour. The first stop was Medeo. And though the random weather of Almaty showed off, the participants kept their good mood and had much fun despite the heavy rain. After warming up and having lunch, delegates continued their tour by going to the Central State Museum. There they could have a look on Kazakhstani history and culture. Afterwards, everyone had a nice walk in the Park of the First President of RK and made many photos along with the beautiful Almaty’s nature. The three days of the conference have ended with the tour to Kok-Tobe, where delegates enjoyed the fascinating night view of the city.
All the participants were very satisfied with the whole process and the level of organization. The Organizing committee got special certificates of Appreciation from His Excellency Mr. ShirishSoni, Ambassador of the South African Republic.
