The V International Student Forum “Green Bridge through Generations”

The V International Student Forum “Green Bridge through Generations”, organized by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan), was held on 11-12 April 2016. It aimed at involving more students and young scientists in promoting the “green economy” and environmental initiatives.
The UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Kazakhstan National Committee of UNESCO “Man and the Biosphere” Programme took part in the event.

More than 300 participants from Kazakhstan (22 universities from all regions), Belarus, Russian Federation and Uzbekistan attended the Forum. The young researchers presented more than 130 reports on the “green economy” and sustainable development.

A separate section coordinated by the Kazakhstan MAB National Committee was devoted to the Biosphere Reserves and protected nature areas in the context of sustainable development. During the Forum its participants organized an exhibition of “green” start-up projects.

Mr. Andrei Chevelev, Officer in Charge of UNESCO Almaty Office, delivered an opening speech and took part in the plenary session of the Forum. UNESCO Almaty presented UNESCO’s vision on building inclusive and socially equitable green society through the transformative power of education, sciences, culture and media.

The Forum organizers expressed special gratitude to UNESCO for supporting the event emphasizing the crucial role of the Organization in advocating the “green” and more sustainable future. UNESCO Almaty took part in the event to promote and raise awareness about UNESCO initiatives, programs and its activities in this field, aiming at further popularization of science among the youth.
