2013 (all year around). MDP/GCP students contributed to the Post-2015 National Consultations utilizing New and Social Media technologies and organizing a series of public lectures of prominent officials from Kazakhstan government and UN system with assistance from the UN Information Office in Kazakhstan

November 30, 2013. Model UN Program organized training for the forthcoming the «Model UN – New Silk Way» International Conference at Al Farabi KazNU. This event chaired by Dr. Rafis Abazov and Galiya Ibrayeva was held in the context of the UN «Academic Impact» Program involving participants from several universities in Almaty city and with contribution from the Consulate General of the USA and United Nations Information Center.

December 3, 2013. The International Conference “Towards sustainable development through green economy” was organized by the Department of Energy and Ecology of Faculty of Geography at al-Farabi Kazakh National University jointly with the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of RK and the UNDP in Kazakhstan.

December, 10-14 2013. International seminar on the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO ) “Competitiveness and International Trade in CENTRAL ASIA REGION “ was held at the Faculty of International Relations, al Farabi KazNU with contributions from prominent speakers such as Mr. Jacek Cukrowski , Director, Institute of Capacity Development UNIDO, Roman Mogilevsky UN expert, Serik Iskakov, PhD Insitute for economic research of MEBP and others.

December 07, 2013. Mini Model UN “UN Security Council discussion of the Crisis Syria-Turkey” was organized by Al-Farabi KazNU with contribution from the Consulate General of the USA in Almaty and United Nations Information Centre (Almaty, Kazakhstan) in the context of UN «Academic Impact» Program.

Kazakhstan: Conference on New Paradigm of Sustainability was held in Almaty

November 05-07, 2014. Almaty An international conference “New Paradigm of Sustainable Human Development: G-Global – a New Form of Global Dialogue” was organized by Al Farabi Kazakh National University (Al Farabi KazNU) jointly with the World Academy of Arts and Sciences, World Future Council and some other organizations. The focus of the conference – which was organized within the context of activities of Al Farabi KazNU as a Global Hub of United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Program on Sustainability – was on the most pressing issues of sustainable development goals (SDG) and sustainable development policies in the 21st century.

UNAI Global teleconference on G-Global platform

April 1, 2015. Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability at Al Farabi KazNU has conducted for the first time an international teleconference on the perspectives of the education for sustainable development by linking the Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability with Global UNAI Hub at UN HQ in NYC with Al Farabi KazNU and several universities in Kazakhstan. This is a pilot project intended to popularize intellectual discourses on sustainable development goals and education for sustainable development utilizing an international ICT platform G-Global. Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability at Al Farabi KazNU intend to conduct s series of teleconferences in April and May 2015.

UNAI trainers from Al Farabi KazNU Introduced the Concept of Green Economy to students

February 13, 2015. Bishkek – Trainers from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) has developed a training module “The Introduction to Green Economy: Concepts and Challenges” within the framework of the series of activities of the Hub of United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) on Sustainability. The module has been envisioned to introduce the basic concepts of Green Economy to students and faculty not only in Kazakhstan, but also in all neighboring countries of Central Asia and possibly beyond. The first training session of the UNAI module was delivered at Arabayev Kyrgyz National University (KNU) and Karasayev Bishkek Humanities University (BHU) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The students and faculty learned about the work of the United Nations and its agencies on mitigating the impact of the climate change and recommendations on the “greening economies” including supporting energy saving and promoting alternative transportation and other measures.

Kazakhstan: Al Farabi KazNU Students to Contribute to Global Sustainable Development The students of al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) took lead in organizing their classmates, colleagues and all interested students from Almaty based universities to discuss the Millennium and Sustainable Development Goals (MDGs & SDGs) within the framework of mini-Model United Nations -ECOSOC (MUN ECOSOC) conference named “Renewed and Strengthened Global Partnership for the Development of Least Developed Countries.” Over the course of several sessions students have discussed the major challenges for the implementation of MDGs & SDG including the RIO+20 agenda in the least developed countries. Experts from the United Nations Information Office (UNIO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the US Consulate General in Almaty Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), KazNU, Turan and KIMEP Universities, International School Miras as well as some other partners significantly contributed to the discussion.

I congratulate the al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the launch of the United Nations Academic Impact hub on sustainability. With this initiative KazNU is showing |a strong and welcome commitment to mobilize the global academic community in a vital area of human concern.

Фото выставка из Афганистана Al Farabi KazNU Hosted a First Photo Exhibition On Afghanistan and Education for Sustainable Development A first photo exhibition on Afghanistan entitled “Seeing a different Afghanistan” was organized by the MDP/Global Classroom program at Al Farabi KazNU presenting a series of pictures about everyday life of young people and students around Kabul city. The pictures were taken during an educational trip to Afghanistan by Prof. Rafis Abazov of Columbia University who is also a visiting professor at Al Farabi KazNU and who traveled to Kabul in late 2013 for discussing research and education cooperation between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. About 50 photos have presented an interesting and relatively little covered aspects of everyday life in Afghanistan – the peaceful life of young people – students, schoolchildren and professionals – who deal with many issues including cultural heritage, cross-generational issues and many others.

KAZAKHSTANI WAY TO NON-NUCLEAR WORLD
An international round table dedicated to the International day of fight for the nuclear weapon liquidation and the 23rd anniversary of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s decree on closing of nuclear testing ground in Semipalatinsk was held on the 26 of September on the faculty of international relations together with social charity fund “Polygon – August 29”, UN informational bureau in Kazakhstan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative office in Almaty and CICA Secretariat. The event was held in the frames of realization of purposes that were set before al-Farabi Kazakh National University acting as a global hub of the sustainable development conducted in accordance with the UN initiative “Academic Impact”. The representatives of diplomatic missions from the USA, Russia, China, Hungary and South Korea, Kazakhstan Institute of Strategic Research, “AkZhol” political party officials, mass media academic representatives and participants of Semipalatinsk nuclear tests took part in the round table.

Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability at Al Farabi KazNU has conducted for the second international teleconference of the UNAI Hub leaders on the topic of UNAI leadership for sustainable development by linking the Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability with Global UNAI Hub at UN HQ in NYC with Al Farabi KazNU and universities in France, Germany, Portugal and India. This project intended to popularize intellectual discourses on sustainable development goals and education for sustainable development utilizing an international ICT platform G-Global. Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability at Al Farabi KazNU plans to present the findings of the teleconferences to UNAI Global Forum Seoul in May2015.
