Kazakhstan President’s Policy Address will be registered as UNSC official document The session participants expressed their appreciation for Nursultan Nazarbayev’s address to Security Council.
For the first time as a non-permanent UN Security Council member, Kazakhstan took part in the open debate on “Conflict prevention and peace”, during which Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Abdrakhmanov presented the political address by President Nursultan Nazarbayev “Kazakhstan’s concept and vision for sustaining global partnerships for a secure, just and prosperous world, ” Kazpravda.kz reports.
The event in New York was attended by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, foreign ministers and vice foreign ministers of Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, France, Ukraine, Sweden, Ethiopia, Great Britain and Japan, permanent representatives to the UN of Russia, China, the US and other UN member countries.
The Security Council members and representatives of a wide range of UN member states voiced their national priorities in conflict prevention and preservation of peace. They expressed support for the work of the new Secretary General on these priority areas of the World Organization.
During the debate, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov stressed that the statement of the President on the occasion of the start of Kazakhstan’s mission as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for 2017-2018 is based on the principles of his Manifesto “World. XXI Century”.
In the Policy Address, Kazakhstan’s work priorities as UN Security Council non-permanent member are indicated. Among them is nuclear-free world, prevention of the threat of global war, peace in Afghanistan and formation of a regional peace zone in Central Asia, development of Astana Code of Conduct for the antiterrorist operations in an effort to create a global coalition against terrorism (network) under the UN auspices, promoting peaceful and stable development of Africa, promotion of the UN’s Millennium goals of sustainable development.
Kazakhstan also drew attention to the importance of joint efforts in preventive diplomacy, development of confidence-building measures, non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons, conflict resolution and combating international terrorism. Kazakhstan reconfirmed its readiness to provide a venue for the talks in Astana on establishing peace in Syria.
Nazarbayev’s policy address was highly appreciated by the session participants and it was decided to register it as an official document of the UN Security Council.
