Оnline broadcast of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review
In 30 of October, 2014 students of International Relations department of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University had the opportunity to watch online broadcast of twentieth session of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group, which was held in Palais des Nations, Geneva.
The work of this meeting was devoted to review information on human rights issue in Kazakhstan. Oversee the work of international meetings in real-time made it possible to students to get acquainted with the work of the UN Human Rights as well as with the National Report of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The representative of Department of Public Information of the UN Vlastimil Samek and the Head of Division of Communication and Information, UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty Sergey Karpov participated in an online broadcast, also explained to students more information about main tasks of UPR, and answered to students’ questions.
The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) was created through the UN General Assembly on 15 March 2006. The UPR a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all 193 UN Member States. Currently, no other universal mechanism of this kind exists.
